Citadel Capital's Chairman and Founder encourages an audience of global investors and more than 100 African private equity insiders to look beyond past perceptions of the world's final economic frontier to realize opportunities to build highways, energy distribution networks, and agribusinesses that will deliver outsized returns over a 10 year horizon
Citadel Capital (CCAP.CA on the Egyptian Stock Exchange), the leading private equity firm
in the Middle East and Africa, is lead sponsor of the inaugural SuperReturn Africa conference in Cairo this week. The three day event taking place from 29 November to 1st December 2010 at the Fairmont Nile City is a response to rapidly rising global interest in investment opportunities driven by robust long-term growth expectations for the continent.
“It is imperative that investors look beyond past perceptions to realize that today’s economic reality is fundamentally different than any in memory. The world economy is witnessing a fundamental structural shift toward the developing world,” said Ahmed Heikal, Chairman and Founder of Citadel Capital, in opening remarks. “Rapidly growing FDI is already a more sizable capital contributor than aid on the continent, Africa’s population of more than one billion is the fastest growing in the world and will represent the largest working age population by 2040 and the continent’s collective GDP of US$ 1.6 trillion in 2008 was roughly on par with both Russia and Brazil. Africa remains challenging, but it cannot be overlooked any longer.”
The three day, future-oriented SuperReturn Africa 2010 will include day long sessions focusing on the continent’s comparative investment potential, investment strategies and risk management, in-depth looks at regions and sectors and the impact of the New Silk Route on the African economy.
The list of Africa’s finance-sector luminaries speaking at SuperReturn Africa includes Arnold Ekpe, Chief Executive Officer of Ecobank, and Nkosanan Moyo, Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of African Development Bank. Bob Geldof, (KBE) humanitarian, musician, broadcaster and businessman, is scheduled to deliver the conference’s closing keynote address.
As the largest private equity firm in Africa according to estimates from Private Equity International, Citadel Capital will offer conference attendees insight from the firm’s experience managing investments worth US$ 8.6 billion across 14 countries and 15 industries.
Citadel Capital Managing Director Karim Sadek will address how private equity investment opportunities in Africa compare with potential in other emerging markets on the panel “Why Africa, Why Now?”. Citadel Capital Managing Director Abdalla ElEbiary will address potential in Citadel Capital’s local market on the panel “Egyptian Private Equity Update: Who Is Investing, Why, and How?”, while Stephen Murphy, Managing Director, Citadel Capital Institutional Fundraising, will offer a reading on the world’s appetite for investment on the continent.
